Irene S. Knasiak

Irene S. Knasiak, age 87, of King of Prussia, PA formerly from West Conshohocken, PA died on Monday October 23rd 2017 at home. Born in Norristown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella (Kordek) Wallace. Irene was employed at the Norristown Sacred Heart Hospital then at the Upper Merion Senior High School where she was a prominent figure in the Guidance Office. She made friends with generations of students and was respected by fellow staff. Irene attended St. Gertrude’s Elementary School in West Conshohocken and later graduated from the West Conshohocken High School in 1946. She was active as class treasure, secretary of various clubs and a cheerleader. Irene was a member of various King of Prussia and Upper Merion senior groups. At the King of Prussia Senior Group she will be remembered for her work as Sunshine Gal, secretary and on the program committee. At her church she served as the president of Mother of Divine Providence Senior Group. Irene was one of the founders of the Upper Merion Senior Service Center. At the senior center she was helpful in various capacities including acting chairperson of a Community Fair. For many years Irene was coordinator for the weekly Sing-A-Long group which she thoroughly enjoyed. She also attended the garden club, the craft club and assisted in various celebrations, teas and events. Her passions included gardening, crafts, sewing, baking, knitting and reading. Irene was proud of her backyard where she created a place of verdant beauty. She loved and cared for all animals and wildlife frequented her gardens to the delight of visitors. Irene is survived by her son Edward and his husband George Kornofsky, her son Gary and his wife Katalin Weisz and three grand children, Ria, Shaffer and Ceidra Knasiak and a great grandson Ihaia Knasiak born to Ria and her partner Isaac Paul. She is also survived by her son Kenneth and his wife Sharon Knasiak and two granddaughters Elizabeth and Sara Knasiak. In addition to her two parents, Irene was preceded in death by a sister Marion Evans and two brothers Carlin and Lawrence Wallace. Relatives and friends may pay respects on Monday morning, October 30th, from 9-10:20am at Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Road, King of Prussia. A funeral mass will commence at10:30am in the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery on Upper Ford Street in West Conshohocken. Professional arrangements entrusted to the William A. Moore Funeral Home, 708 Fayette St., Conshohocken. In lieu of flowers it is suggested that donations be made to the Upper Merion Senior Service Center, 431 West Valley Forge Road, King of Prussia, PA 19406.
