Maureen Elizabeth Dougherty

Maureen Elizabeth (Murphy) Dougherty, age 86 of Glen RIdge, New Jersey and formerly of Chester County, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025. She was born in Philadelphia on December 29, 1938, daughter of the late John & Gertrude (Burke) Murphy. Maureen was raised in Upper Darby attending St. Alice Church and grade school. She graduated from West Catholic School for Girls Class of 1956. She was employed by Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania at various locations until 1983 and retired from AT&T in Parsippany, New Jersey in 1986 where she held supervisory project manager roles with both employers. Maureen was involved in the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Notre Dame Div. 2, in Bridgeport, Pennsylvania. She enjoyed doing Irish dancing, playing Quizzo, shuffleboard and cornhole and was an avid reader but what she enjoyed most of all was attending and celebrating as many of her grandchildrens’ activities and achievements from sporting events, to orchestra, choir & drama performances, and all of their academic achievements. Maureen also had a love of the Jersey Shore and was able to purchase a shore getaway for herself & family where many memories could be and were made. She enjoyed taking long walks on the beach, looking for shells and building sandcastles with her grandchildren, to just taking a nap listening to the waves crashing into the shore. She was also a member of the Greater Wildwood Elk’s #1896 where enjoyed meeting up with friends and listening to bands perform. Maureen was also a world traveler. She traveled internationally for work and pleasure. She traveled to such locations as Ireland, Italy, Germany, Greece, Russia & Dubai where she was given instructions for that trip on “what to do if taken hostage”. Maureen was also known for her incredible beauty and strikingly ice blue eyes, for her quick wit and ability to make you laugh, for her grit and determination, and for her independent mind and spirit. Maureen is survived by her 3 daughters, Maureen Dougherty, Joanne (Dennis) Bartley and Ellen Dougherty (Matt Wusinich), sister Sr. Sheila Murphy RSM and her 7 grandchildren (Jimmy, Marguerite, Micky, Genevieve, JoEllen, Erin & Eddie), many cherished nieces and nephews and dear lifelong friends. Maureen is predeceased by 2 sisters, Helen Wusinich and Karen Murphy, brother John Murphy, brother-in-law James Wusinich and sister-in-law Kathleen Murphy. Relatives and friends are invited to pay respects on Thursday evening, January 23rd from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the William A. Moore Funeral Home, 708 Fayette Street, Conshohocken or on Friday morning, January 24th from 9-10:15 a.m.. at Mother of DIving Providence Church, 333 Allendale Road, King of Prussia. Mass will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. Internment is at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery, 1600 S. Sproul Road, Springfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or (800) 805-5856.
